About Mushroom To Grow
Art has always been a part of my life. I was the kid who never stopped drawing, mostly silly portraits, one after the other. My mom is an artist and from the beginning she encouraged me to keep creating, no matter what it looked like. I was born in South Africa and moved to the United States when I was 9, and experiencing a big world early on gave me a lot to be curious about.
After moving to Denver in 2020 I dove deeper into painting and ink drawing, and that's when the mushrooms started showing up. First with legs and sneakers, then with bums. I work across different styles and mediums but stippling is what I enjoy the most. There is something meditative about building texture and depth one tiny dot at a time.
In 2024 I decided to scan my drawings and make prints. I had a few extra frames lying around and figured I'd give selling them a try at a garage sale. Somehow I sold all of them. I framed more, posted them on Facebook Marketplace, and the response was overwhelming. I never expected my little mushroom bums to end up on people's walls, but here we are.
I created Mushroom To Grow in 2025 to share this weird, joyful corner of my art with people beyond Denver. Since then it has grown into something I always dreamed it could be, including wearable art. The Spore Booty Collection brings the same stipple ink energy into hoodies, crewnecks, and more, because some art belongs on your walls and some belongs on your body. The name is a reminder that growth isn't just about effort. It's about environment. When we're supported, when we're around people who are aligned with us, when we're finally in the right space, that's when we really have mushroom to grow. This is just the beginning. If you're here, thank you. It means more than you know.
